Daily writing prompt
What’s the first impression you want to give people?

I posted an image to my Instagram that made a friend question, “Are you okay?” I get bored easily, so to fill the void, all it takes is an exclamation, a pose, or a long, hard stare at nothing. But if you choose “stare,” it has to be with raised eyebrows to look more pensive than pessimistic. The first impression I want to give people is chaos. The impression that I can go from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye. It’s controlled, however, because it’s manufactured.
As a kid, I had a resting bitch face, and other times I was just a bitch. Whenever I seemed displeased, whether it was because I had been with family friends for far too long and wanted to go home, or was frowning in front of Cinderella Castle at Disney World in Orlando on the hottest day of July, my mom would snidely comment, “I’m boring.”
No, mom, I’m bored–not boring. Because of this inside joke about my display of boredom, I’ve learned to spark false excitement. It feels better for someone to ridicule my sporadic behavior than to just stay still.

I’d rather be crazy than boring.
